Scout Leader Training 2016

By Mike Rushton      25th April 2016

For the second year running I have been invited to carry out some wild walks for Scout leaders within the West Lancashire area. The event is headed up by Mike Winrow along with other Scout leaders at Tawd Vale Scout Camp. Throughout the weekend attending leaders can carry out axe work, pole lathe, shave horse, carving, fire, tarp, hammock, campfire cooking and building projects.

My job was to deliver a short, information packed, wild walk which always proves of great interest to the leaders. We looked at the many tree and plant species on site, tracked and trailed mammals, looked at animal feeding signs, talked about tree safety while woodland camping and many more aspects of the outdoorsman.

On the Sunday I had a wander around the camp and chatted to some leaders. They all agreed it was a well executed, informative and interesting weekend and they have loads of new ideas to take back to their Scout groups, which in essence that’s what the weekend is about.

I would just like to thank Mike, Lee, Paul, Brian and Dave for making me so welcome along with presenting me with a Necker and wooden Woggle which makes me an honorary member of their Scout group. A great touch guys, thanks.... Mike
