By Mike Rushton 05 October 2014 Straight after a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Skill Award, I continued a busy week by hightailing it over to Buttermere to hook up with Kev Shaw to organise and film Episode 4 of the Outdoorsman Series. The Sunday was spent sorting out kit, ensuring all camera equipment worked, batteries were charged, our stomachs were charged, relaxing at Dalegarth Campsite which was our base camp.
The Monday saw us set out for three, maybe four, days carrying everything we needed to camp and film the summer section of Episode 4. The weather was kind, even if a little hot at times but the rain stayed away which is a bonus with all the camera gear.
The filming went well as Kev and I, after filming three long episodes previously, pretty much know what each of us wants. A good route up Scale Force Beck to Floutern Tarn saw camp 1, then into Ennerdale over Black Sail pass to Wasdale saw camp 2. The filming continued without complication, on day 3 we needed to add a few links into the film so shot up to Styhead Tarn and up Aaron Slack to finish off the filming itinerary on 'The Gables'. Well ahead of schedule, we smashed straight through the optional camp 3 and down to Dalegarth - back to base camp.
Kev and I will be returning in winter when the snow is down to finish off episode 4 and the winter mountain section.
